Notes and Questions on the DSpace Presentation

Q: DSpace doesn’t support SRU like you say, but there is an active add-on for that which does support SRU and SRW that is very easy to install.
A: That’s good to know as I did have a look and found a document from a while ago, so it’s good to know there is this new add-on.

Q: You focus very much on DSpace. Are there also parts of what you described that could be used with EPrints?
A: Well the software we’re developing will connect to DSpace, EPrints, Fedora, IntraLibrary, Digitool and to Digital Commons and indeed anyone else who is interested. We’ll be doing the implementations with as many open source repositories as we can, and we are working with a number of commercial suppliers as well. The interface will also be published when it is in a stable state, so that anyone will be able to make use of it.
Q: Will it be open source?
A: Some of it will be open source, the repository implementations will be, but I don’t yet know about our codes. But we’ll be giving a lot of it away. Our business model is to make money on licensing access to the API rather than the software.
