Questions and Notes on ExLibris Digitool & Rosetta Presentation
Q: How much integration with systems within institutions or with users have you done? How much demand for using Web Services do you have, in your experience?
A: There has been some integration, but it has mainly been integration between our other applications. One of our customers is now looking at integrating with Symplectic to provide additional functionality that we don’t provide. There has been other integration with Digitool but not within the realm of institutional repositories. For example, people have integrated with finance systems, for selling images and file streams, so there has been some, but not a huge amount.
Q: Has the adoption of Web Services helped in that type of service or would people have used their own custom ways of communicating if it hadn’t been for Digitool?
A: There are a few Web Services, but not many and we have a range of modules that Digitool supports as well. We have a deposit module and an approver module and an ingest module and so on. So, I think we are aiming to provide more of a package solution for what we are dealing with rather than building your own solution - which is a bit different to open source obviously, as a commercial service.
