Objective

To digitise 400 volumes of paper-based theses (book scanning) and 1,500 volumes of microfilm theses (microfilm scanning); to develop processes and inform the business model for a sustained programme of digitisation.

The retro-digitisation workpackage will deliver:

a representative sample of theses (400) digitised from paper and sourced from partner institutions

a representative sample of theses (1,500) digitised from the British Library stock of microfilm theses

loading of the digitised set to the central host

costings and recommended processes for the digitisation of all UK theses (to be fed into Work Package 7)

a process to support the retrieval and digitisation of individual theses not already digitised but requested by a user
