Work Package 5 - Legal Enhancements

Objective:

To identify and explore any legal issues not fully addressed by the EThOS project that arise during the testing and 'early adopters' implementation stage.

WP5 will:

  • collate and analyse known legal issues unresolved from the EThOS project and associated independent evaluation
  • liaise with external ETD groups to obtain relevant legal advice and guidance
  • ensure the licence is in place before theses are added to the live EThOS service
  • record legal concerns arising from the 'early adopters' implementation stage and co-ordinate relevant action across the work packages
  • seek advice and clarification on identified areas of legal concern from an IPR lawyer
  • develop additional guidelines for inclusion in the toolkit

About the Work Package Leader:

Susan Copeland was Project Director of the JISC-funded ‘Electronic Theses’ project, which was part of the ‘FAIR’ Programme from 2002- 2004. In the following years she was the leader of the EThOS project workpackage that created the EThOS Toolkit and was a member of the EThOS Project Board. Susan is a member of the Board of Directors of the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations and leads the ‘Networking’ working group in the JISC/SURF initiative to encourage European collaboration with regard to e-theses developments.
